Welcome to the University of Hawai'i information page!

On this home page you'll learn everything you need to know about the University of Hawai'i!  Fraternities, sororities, expenses, getting around, popular spots, you name it!

Here at the University of Hawai'i, life is like luxury.  I mean, how many other colleges are real close to a white sand beach, have nice weather, and are located in Hawaii?!

Our pride school colors are glorious hunter green, solid silver, and beautiful black.  Our wonderful students are looking into getting an official nickname with an official mascot.  The Warrior isn't the mascot of the University, he's more of just an entertainer.

Below is a picture of UH Manoa's Chancellor's Office.  The Chancellor is pretty much like a president over everything.

Best routes to take!

Above is a map of all around UH Manoa!

If you drive a car, that map can EASILY show you how to get there!  Highway 1, 24A, and 24 B is the main highway you would want to stay on.  You want to get off the highway on Metcalf St. and that will take you right to the university!  You could also exit the highway onto Dole St.  Dole St. actually drives right through the campus!  Lastly, you could get off onto University Ave.  That circles around the whole campus!

If you don't drive, the easiest way of transportation is to simply call a taxi, a bus or limbo!  Most likely a taxi or bus for short trips.  Bus fare is $1.50.  You can get a monthly past which is $27.50 for adults.  Good bus routes are #4, #6, #18, and Express Route A.  For a city taxi call 1-800-359-2121 (toll free).  Its $20-25 from the airport to UHM, $6-8 from Waikiki to UHM, and $10-12 from Ala Moana shopping center to UHM.  Mopeds and bicycles are also good transportation.  Mopeds can be $700-1000.

As if you couldn't tell by the map, UH Manoa is a town of a college!  It actually could pass as a town too!  Believe it or not it is PACKED with all sorts of hot spots to go to.  Some famous resturaunts available are: Hale Aloha Cafe, Yummy's Food Court, TACO BELL, JAMBA JUICE, Pizza Hut Express, Corner Market Cafe, Ba-Le, Paradise Palms Cafe!  They have even more resturants on campus, such as: a swimming pool snack bar, Stan Sheriff Arena, Les Murakami Stadium, and Satellie Operations!

Also, as if you couldn't guess, another popular place to hang out is...the beach!!!  Waikiki Beach to be specific.  It's only a few miles down the road from UH Manoa!  There are also cruises everywhere to get on that even serve dinner!

Life is a party!

When you're going to college in O'ahu, Hawaii.  You MUST have fun!  So I'm here to supply you with the entertainment you can do!

To start off simple and easy, you could join a sports team at UH Manoa!  By the looks of their sports page, they seem to be ranked very high in most sports.  Right now, their baseball team has just started up their season and won their first road game against Nevada.  Their football team is having a "Fan Photo Day" this Saturday so they can meet the people who cheer them on!  Their women's water polo season is coming to an end, but a STRONG end!  They are ranked 4th and are traveling here to California to play Santa Barabara!  So as you can tell, being a sports team is pretty dedicating, but you travel a lot and have fun!

Another great thing to do at night, and the day too, is go to walk around the town of Waikiki.  I was just recently their, and walked around that town every night I could!  It has any resturant you can think of.  There are ABC Stores on EVERY corner (literally).  At night time, all kinds of crazy folk dress up as robots, tinmen, coppermen, and music players gather on the street with one purpose, to make money!  They are very good and sound like real, machinery!  Of course, their hats are always filled to the brim with sweet mulah!  You also cant forget the musicians and other street performers!  There is a lot of musicians playing awesome music and other kinds of people doing whatever they can to make money!  If you want some SPECIAL Hawaiian items, go shop at The International Market!  All kinds of Hawaiian people have awesome shops there that are promised to blow you away!

During the daytime, Waikiki offers all kinds of surfing lessons, and snorkeling, or just plain siwmming in the ocean! Surfing and snorkeling ranges around $25.  The Hawaiian ocean water is very warm too, I went swimming aounrd 8:30 pm in the warm water!

Sometime when you are there, it is a MUST to walk to Diamond Head!  It is a life experience!  The way up may be tiring yes, but when you get to the top, its priceless!

Waikiki also has their own Honolulu Zoo!  Tours on nice banana cars are also available to tour all around Waikiki!

The Ala Moana shopping center is one of the best malls there is.  You can get there by taking Bys #6, 18, and Express A from UH Manoa!

Last but not least, in Waikiki there is a little cafe called the Coconut Cafe.  You GOT to go there for the best and BIGGEST snow cones and smoothies you have ever had!

Now that you see all the treasures so close to this university, wouldn't YOU like to go?

The evil...costs!

Here, I will explain to you the expenses of basically everything there is on the campus!

Tuition
In case you didn't know, tuition is the cost of instruction!
UH Manoa Outreach College Tuition follows the Per Credit Hour solution.  So basically, students enrolled for 12 or more credits have tutition charged on a per-credit basis.

UH Manoa Undergraduate Nursing and Dental Hygiene Fee has the undergraduates for nursing and dental hygiene pay $500 per semester for a professional fee.

Books
At the UH Manoa you will need to buy books, obviously.  Text books or general books, either way it costs money.  At the UH Manoa bookstore, most general books range to be around $25.  I would love to tell the prices of textbooks, but you have to be enrolled in a class to order them.  My brother is in college though, and textbooks usually range about $100. Ouch!

Merchandise
At the UH Manoa bookstore, they have all kinds of merchandise to choose from.  For example, they have tons of nice sunglasses that usually range to be about $110.  The bookstore also has keychains that are about $4.  $7 coffee mugs, $30 license plate borders, $7 decals, $750 Customm made Ukulele, $8 golf towel, $20 waste basket, $28 beach towel, $8 beanie bear, and a $20 parking sign.  That is just a START at the merchandise available in that store!  Meal wise, you usually will find meals on average to be aounrd $6-$9 casually.  If you eat expensive it can be anywhere from $15-$30, individually!

Housing
You can choose to stay int he UH dorms or the EWC dorms.  If you are registered, you can easily get one of these dorms.  You get the dorm for the both the fall and spring semester.  The cost of traditional doubles starts at $2,817 and apartment units starting at 3,759.  You can also get meal plans separately with prices starting at $925 for semester and $1,850 for the whole year.

Fraternities or Sororities
UH Manoa has mostly clubs and organizations.  Some of the clubs are free, but most range to be about $25 per semester.

Well, after seeing the prices of basically everything you need, I hope you bring enough money!

Benefits at UH Manoa

UH Manoa has many great benefits.  They do seem to be a bit private though.  In order to see the salaries for graduates, you have to be logged in as one of the students.

UH Manoa is ranked pretty high in programs though! Take sports for instance, their women's tennis beat the fourth ranked team in the NAIA!  The softball just won their final game of the season!  The womens water polo is also playing the 4th ranked in their division in a few days.

UH Manoa may not be national ranked in a lot of stuff, but they do seem to get very close!

All these options!

Aloha!  Here at UH Manoa we have all different kinds of clubs and organizations, and a few fraternities and sororities.  I will tell you about them!  You will also find info on the school departments here!

They have so many clubs/organizations that they have them categorized into different groups!  For example, there is the Academic category, and some clubs within that are the Accounting Club, Alpha Beta Chi (ABX), Arnold Air Society, and the Chi Epsilon.  All of the different categories are: Academic, Ethnic/Cultural, Fraternity/Sorority, Honorary Societies, Leisure/Recreational, Political, Religious, Service, Sports, and Student Affairs.  I'm going to spend a little time talking about the fraternities and sororities.

They currently have 3 different fraternities/sororites, but one of them doesn't have a link.  The Gamma Chi Sigma Sorority does exist but has not information page.

Alpha Gamma Delta

The Alpha Gamma Delta was founded in 1904 and it is an international fraternity.  It is for women dedicated to excellence, leadership development, high ideals and sisterhood.  If you want to join, you have to contact the leaders for requirements and meeting times.  Their email is alphagam@hawaii.edu and their website address is http://www2.hawaii.edu/~alphagam.  The club has a bunch of programs and projects planned to pertain to sisterhood, leadership, community service, and scholarship.  You have to contact them for more information.

Pi Sigma Epsilon, Upsilon Chapter, Inc. (PSE)
PSE is a national, professional, co-educational Fraternity in selling, and sales mangement.  To see membership requirements they want you to check out their website and come to orientations.  Their website is www2.hawaii.edu/~pse and email is jsugai@mac.com.  Meetings are held in the Exec Board on Tuesdays at 12 pm and in the CBA on Thursdays at 12 pm.

So there's the bunch on fraternites and sororities!

Now for schools and departments.  University of Hawaii is actually 10 different schools.  There is UH Manoa, UH Hilo, UH West O'ahu, UH Hawai'i, UH Honolulu, UH Kapi'olani, UH Kaua'i, UH Leeward, UH Maui, and UH Windward.  As you know, I'm focusing on UH Manoa!

UH Manoa has departments for everyone!  To start it off we have Technology!  Technology is to embrace new education and information technologies.

Next is Culture, Society, and Arts!  A vibrant cultural life enriches our human spirit!

Here we have Economic Development.  The students here have to be an engine for economic development in Hawai'i.

There is also Place.  This is a globally connected Hawaiian place of learning.

Next off is Social Justice.  Here students need to respect the intrinsic worth and dignity of all.

Here we have Educational Effectiveness, which provides a transformational learning experience.

Last but not least is research.  Manoa's essence IS research.

So those departments of UH Manoa, make up the school!
